I love my JOB! Regenerate are invited into the local primary schools of Yate and Sodbury to provide a Collective Worship each term and I get to do 13 of these every term!
Today is a busy one, starting at Raysfield where I do KS1 then KS2 collective worship. The story is David and Goliath, so you will find me running around the assembly hall and flinging myself to the ground, as David defeats the Giant with Gods help to make him strong. We talk about how a rubber ball may look small but is strong no matter how we treat it, squashing, throwing or saying it is rubbish, it bounces back! We can be resilient too, not letting problems squash us. We can ask friends, teachers or carers for help, remembering that we can be strong too. We share from the Bible that God is a safe place and ready to help when we need him, Psalm 46 vs1.
Then I go home and set up for a zoom network meeting where together we discuss and learn about the effects of trauma on children and how we can support them in our meetings with them. This directly helps with being informed practitioners’ whilst we provide mentoring for children each week. I make sure my plans for Wednesday and Thursday sessions are ready and bespoke for each of the 6 children I will see.
I have a late lunch, then head over to Woodlands school for their end of day collective worship assembly, meeting with Joy, one of our amazing volunteers who joins with me to present the same assembly as this morning. I do the flinging about though!!
On another day you might catch me helping to present the Christmas story to a class of year 4’s, or Easter to year 5’s or helping a year 6 class to reflect on their primary school experience and share hopes and anxieties for year 7. These all being part of the Wonder Space events we do 3 times a year. Or I could be having a busy office day with Rachel, where we meet, pray and prepare the next steps, or just be filling up bottles with PVA glue and sparkles!!
It is such a privilege and joy to work for Regenerate, representing the churches of Yate and Sodbury, reaching 3000+ children every term in a whole school setting or talking to a class about being a Christian or sitting listening to a child and providing a safe, quiet space for them to “hang out” with Deborah. My days are so varied.
Feel free to email and ask more about our work. Thank you for your interest.
We send out termly prayer letters too, as none of what we do is without God!
